Nature has it’s way of taking back environments that fall to neglect. Man clears trees from a pristine forest. Transforms logs into lumber and builds a structure. Then for one reason or another over the years, abandons the land. Nature seizes what man forfeits and slowly year by year, decade by decade, reclaims what once was it’s own. Vegetation from below meets trees from above. Moss scours the old structure weaving its tentacles deep within the grain. Moisture from the increasing foliage penetrates to the core within the decade old boards. Slowly decomposing the molecules and one day, man’s efforts will collapse upon the earth. Only memories of those still fortunate to walk among us, will remember the better days of long ago. Sadness and sorrow of this picture can be replaced by the solace of what is yet to be. ~Patrick Timm
